The UK Number Plate / Vehicle Registration System
Functional and fascinating too, for some of us!
Number plates. Every car has them; we see hundreds of them every time we hit the road. Some people may see them as nothing more than a piece of arbitrary information, like a serial number; others use them to send a message to the world about their status, name or personality. People like me just find them fascinating in all forms. They reveal a lot more information than you may think and the history of the use of registraion marks is surprisingly complicated.
Whether you have an interest in number plates, the registration marks upon them or are just after some background data, then this site is the place for you.
I hope to offer the most complete and accurate source of UK number plate and vehicle registration data on the web. Please email me to let me know if there is anything missing or inaccurate. Thanks.
Where possible, I have tried to adhere to the terms Number Plate to mean the physical plate that attaches to the car and Registraion Mark is the sequence of letters and numbers allocated to record the car's identity.
